The B-29/B-24 Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force brings together the aircraft, pilots and crews from over 70 CAF units across the country to create the AirPower Squadron – an ever changing assortment of military aircraft touring together to bring the sights, sounds and smells of World War II aviation history to audiences across the United States. Legacy of the Plains Museum is a dedicated caretaker of our ancestral legacy. Our legacy is tied to the land, linking the first human inhabitants to ranchers who find stone tools, linking growers irrigating with North Platte River water to the Oregon Trail pioneers who traveled along that river. Our central objectives include: • Promoting an appreciation for traditional agricultural techniques, machinery, and knowledge in the unique High Plains environment. • Exploring the cultural and ethnic diversity of this region, including the unique perspectives of Native Americans, Japanese Americans, Mexican Americans, and Volga Germans. • Preserving the stories of historic trails and travelers. • Providing interactive, hands-on experiences to help visitors understand the origins of their food and how communities have grown in this region of the American West. Joe Nichols, born in Cooperstown, NY, is a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of experiences. He graduated from Fort Plain Central Schools in Fort Plain, NY, before pursuing his higher education at SUNY (State University of New York) in Johnstown, NY. It was during his formative years that his passion for aviation took flight, nurtured by his stepfather who managed Nellis Field Airport and served as a flight instructor in Fort Plain, NY. From 1970 to 2005, Joe built a successful career in telephone communications, working for esteemed companies such as GTE, General Telephone, Continental Telephone, and Frontier Communications. In 1983, he established his own venture, Executone Business Telephones, which he owned and operated until its acquisition in 2005, subsequently transforming into Mobius Communications. Additionally, from 2008 to 2013, he dedicated his talents to Great Lakes Aviation in Scottsbluff, serving in customer service. Joe's involvement in his community and various organizations is admirable. Throughout the years, he has actively participated in the Big Brother Program and held significant positions such as President of the Twin City Tree Commission, board member of the Scottsbluff Rural Fire Protection District, board member of Northwest Kansas Technical College, and past member of Kiwanis of Scottsbluff. Notably, since 1983, he has volunteered as a firefighter and Lieutenant on the WNRA ARFF, demonstrating his commitment to public safety. Beyond his professional and community engagements, Joe is a dedicated family man. He proudly shares his life with two sons, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Together with his son and family, he also raises Red Angus and American Aberdeen Black and Red Angus. Excited to contribute to the Western Nebraska Regional Airport, Joe embraces the opportunity to serve as a board member of the board of directors, leveraging his wealth of experience and passion for aviation to make a positive impact on the organization's endeavors.
